NorthLight Foundation is a private foundation established by Dan and Sheryl Tishman. We invest at the intersection of human and environmental landscapes and work with organizations to deliver high impact and systemic change.

Our work focuses on building power across diverse communities to lead on environmental protection, with a focus on climate and land conservation. We fund through a lens of environmental justice.

Our Approach

NorthLight Foundation approaches environmental grantmaking from a perspective of exploration and creativity. We deploy risk capital to encourage new and fundamentally different paths to systems change. At NorthLight, we foster innovative initiatives to develop new leaders, encourage collaboration across movements, facilitate a just transition, and communicate the need for urgent environmental action.

Experimental and cross-cutting strategies are necessary to confront interrelated environmental and social injustices, though these efforts are often woefully underfunded. At NorthLight, we embrace efforts addressing the interconnectedness of human health and well-being and the environment.
